See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Frederic Bastiat "The Law"
Thomas Jefferson referred to the constitution as the “Chain” that would bind our government. Today, those chains are meant for you and your liberty. I find it alarming that 53% of my fellow citizens feel they have a claim to my savings, investment, labor and most importantly, my freedom. A covetous mentality has surely infected this nation. The founders obviously knew there would always be despots lurking in our midst. However, they would find astounding the number of willing enablers.
A short time ago, I had to run down the road to pick my daughter up from school. The garage door was left open during this 20 minute round trip. After I arrived home, I noticed my power tools were no longer in my garage. After feeling irritated for a short while, I had to tip may cap to whoever made off with my gear. I realized someone came to my home, saw something they wanted and took it without hiding behind men in suits to do it for them.
Fact is, many of us (we can’t say most Americans) get up every morning looking to better our lives economically. We go to our jobs and toil away for ourselves and our families, not strangers. Instead of benevolence being a personal matter, our government confiscates then chooses the recipients. Or, shall we say, voting bloc.
Briefly, here’s our take on just a few of the major issues of the day. No grey areas for us, just black and white.
The Welfare State I recall a statement William Wallace made in the movie, Braveheart. When scolding the Scottish nobles, he declared, “You’re so concerned with squabbling for the scraps from Longshanks’ table that you’ve missed your God-given right to something better.”
Our racist “fathers” in Washington looking down with contempt on many Americans say, “Boy, America ain’t for you. Take these scraps, boy. Just remember who got ‘m for you.” This may be what President Bush referred to as “The soft prejudice of low expectations”. Hardly soft, it is malicious at its very core.
Global Warming It happens every spring. David Gee, chairman of science committee of 2008 International Geological Congress asked an interesting question in 2008: For how many years must the planet cool before we begin to understand that the planet is not warming?
Trying to control CO2, which is less than 0.04% of the atmosphere, is not worth your freedom. Oh, uh, maybe controlling freedom is the goal. Perhaps our government should instead concentrate on controlling ocean and wind currents, precipitation patterns and solar activity….The real causes of climate change.
Healthcare There are so many things that can be argued, from loser pays in litigation, to government mandated coverage. But try this. Touch yourself, no, not in the biblical sense. That’s where you live. We contend the most important expenditure in your budget is an investment in the place where you reside, your neighbor lives somewhere else. If you look at percentages of women that have had mammograms, men having colonoscopies, cancer survival rates, and patient satisfaction surveys, to name a few issues, you’ll see that by any objective analysis the United States has the best healthcare in the world. The problem is, many just don’t want to pay for it.
Taxes Taxes may be a necessity but our federal government has chosen to involve itself in things in which it was never intended. Would you be hungry if we didn’t have the USDA? Have a place to live without HUD? Instead of promising to secure freedom and defend our way of life, our politicians campaign on what they will do with your property. Most of us don’t mind pooling some money with other drivers to insure we have roads on which to drive. People that pay a fuel tax actually get some measurable utility. The problem is so many of those dollars go to subsidize inefficient forms of energy and garner votes from special interests such as big corn, big windmill and big science. And, by the way, it is disgraceful that people laboring in non Chrysler and GM automobile plants are forced to work a portion of their day to keep their competition in business.
Simply put, a government created by the people for the people has set itself against the people.
Although many of us have a bad taste in our mouths, we have tried to make our shirts as tasteful as possible. We did have some fun with our FREE THE PRESS shirts, though. If you don’t think the press in America is bound, or shall we say enslaved by their ideology, well, think again.
Liberty In Chains will be donating $.50 for every shirt sold into a fund that will go directly to help support George Obama, the estranged half-brother of the guy that will send just under a billion of your dollars to Hamas but still have family members living in squalor.
